Summer Deliveries, Strained Knees & Cider by the Sea
Last week, I hit the road for a big delivery run across the South West—this time with my daughter in tow. I say “in tow” loosely… she’s just had knee surgery from a skiing accident, so wasn’t exactly hopping out to help shift 20-litre boxes. Instead, she was mostly in charge of sitting in the van, snapping photos and offering moral support (and burger recommendations at the services).
The main focus? Deliveries to The Stable, the brilliant pizza and cider spots dotted across the South West. Each venue is packed full of charm, perfect for summer, and offers up a line-up of British drinks that makes our cider-loving hearts proud. Here’s where we went:
🍕 Fistral – Our Newquay stop-off. Honestly? One of the best views in the country. Perched right above the beach, it’s a cracking spot for sourdough pizza and a cold pint of cider while you watch the surf roll in.
🎸 Bristol – Right on the Harbourside and buzzing with life. Their cider game is strong, but it’s the live music scene that makes this one really sing. A proper city venue with a local feel.
⚓ Padstow – Smack bang on the harbour. It’s got everything: breakfasts, burgers, pizzas and one of the best cider selections going. It’s open all day and ideal for people-watching with a cold one in hand.
🌊 Falmouth – Tucked in the Old Custom House with views of the quay that are hard to beat. It’s coastal charm meets pizza and pints, all with that laid-back Cornish energy.
🍺 Plymouth – We love this one. Hidden away in the Barbican with cobbled streets and harbour views, it’s the kind of place you plan to visit for an hour and end up staying all afternoon.
🛁 Bath – Tucked just off Kingsmead Square, it’s a short wander from the Roman Baths. A great spot to rest your feet after a day of sightseeing (and fill your belly with pizza and cider).
It’s always a treat to deliver to a group of venues that share our passion for local, quality drinks, and even better when we can do it as a family (even if I did all the heavy lifting). We finished the day in Barnstaple, looking out towards Instow, a place close to our hearts as it’ll host my daughter’s wedding this September. Not a bad way to wrap things up.
Cheers to good venues, good cider, and good company. even if some of it stayed in the van all day.
